Without a ceiling fan duster, ceiling fans are just plain difficult to clean because they have to be cleaned on both sides and, as the name implies, they are always near the ceiling. This is not a problem for me as much with my ceiling fans in the bedroom because I can stand on the bed to clean them. The living room ceiling fan is a bit more difficult to clean because I have to get something to stand on first, and it is just plain awkward.
A ceiling fan duster can make the task much easier to do. Ceiling fan dusters sometimes come with extendable handles, so that even short people like me can use them to easily reach the ceiling fan without having to climb. I particularly like the kind that fits over the ceiling fan blade so that it cleans both sides of the blade at once. It is a handy tool to have around the house.
Swiffer 360 Degree Extendable Handle Dusting Kit
An Easier Way to Clean Your Ceiling Fans
This is the one that I have, and I have to say that my ceiling fans haven’t been this clean in years! When I pulled it out of the package and tried it for the first time, I was amazed at how easy it was to clean the fans without having to climb or stand on my toes trying to reach it, and it is lightweight and no problem to hold up.
There are two kits pictured below. The first one is the duster itself, and the 2nd includes both the duster and extra refills to put aside for when you need them.

The handle extends 3 feet, which is more than enough to reach the fan while standing on the floor, and the dusting part rotates and locks in place at various angles to allow you to clean more effectively. I lock it at 90 degrees in order to clean the top of the fan blades or extend it straight up in order to clean the par of the base of the fan which is near to the ceiling. The dirt seems to cling to the duster head so that it is removed easily.
Refill kits are also sold separately so that you can purchase when you need them. The refills are easy to put on and remove, since there are small sleeves built in so that the handle slides easily in place. Here is the refill:
